The Creation of Military Park Residents Association

The Military Park Residents Association was created in the spring of 2008. Several concerned neighbors got together, following several neighborhood break-ins, with the idea of forming an association which would further Military Park neighborhood interests, create communication within the neighborhood, and deter crime. In early April, 13 interested residents met at the house of Cy P. in the 1800 block N.W. 33rd St. Cy P. and Neila C. led this first meeting. We were handed paper and pen, and we took time to note assorted ideas of what we wanted to see accomplished in a neighborhood association. We then discussed the written results. Plans were made for the first meeting of all invited neighbors at the Wesley United Methodist Church in late April of 2008. Georgie Rasco, Executive Director of Neighborhood Alliance, was asked to help with guidelines for, and facilitation of this first meeting. Approximately 50 people attended this first meeting, which was held at the Grand House restaurant on Classen Ave. The name of 'Military Park Residents Association' was decided on. Boundaries were voted upon, along with discussion of the need for a newsletter and crime-patrol. Wesley United Methodist allowed us to have a room for our meetings, which was greatly appreciated. Cy P. was voted in as President of the newest neighborhood association in Oklahoma City.
